Neurofeedback Treatment
Neurofeedback is a training approach for the brain and the body. It is a specialized form of Biofeedback that may help the brain more effectively and efficiently self-regulate. It is a form of exercise for the brain.
In the picture on the right, the patient is racing rocket ships
on the computer screen to change his brainwave patterns during a
neurofeedback treatment session. One boy we worked with said, "It's like taking your brain to the gym for a workout." Since the mid-1980's Dr. Rothman has been providing neurofeedback for a variety of health concerns in the Seattle and Bellevue, Washington area.
Additional Forms of Biofeedback Dr. Rothman provides a number of biofeedback modalities depending upon what will be most useful. Sometimes neurofeedback is the best approach. At other times other forms of Biofeedback may prove of greater benefit. He will be glad to discuss these options with you.
Counseling and Psychotherapy Dr. Rothman and his associates provide several approaches to counseling. While biofeedback is frequently helpful, it is not always necessary. Sometimes the most useful approach to a problem is one or more approaches to counseling. Additionally, even when biofeedback is helpful, short-term counseling is frequently a beneficial addition.
Psychological Testing We offer a limited amount of psychological testing which can be beneficial in helping to decide the best way to do biofeedback and in considering whether other forms of short-term treatment might also be useful. Also, limited psychological testing can be very helpful in answering such questions as, "Does my child (or do I) have ADD or ADHD, or is it more likely that anxiety or something else is the problem?"
Brain Mapping (QEEG) Dr. Rothman will sometimes recommend information be obtained through using a QEEG, or quantifiable electroencephalogram, which can be helpful in guiding brainwave biofeedback.
Biofeedback Home Training In certain cases biofeedback services can be done in the home under Dr. Rothman's direction. This is particularly attractive when more than one family member will benefit from the training, when treatment will require numerous sessions, or when geographical distance makes weekly office visits inconvenient. Please feel free to discuss with Dr. Rothman whether home training may be feasible for you or a family member. |
