Biofeedback - Training For the Body and Mind That Can Sometimes Be Done at Home
Biofeedback is a training approach for the brain and body that may help decrease depression and anxiety, reduce pain, improve sleep, increase focus and concentration, and help with many other conditions.
In biofeedback training, computers monitor body processes (such as brainwave and breathing patterns) and return information (feedback) so that new and healthier patterns may be developed. The special form of biofeedback for training the brain is neurofeedback.
- Our Biofeedback at Home Program
One of the benefits of biofeedback is that it is sometimes really useful and helpful to do at home. For a number of years, after initial sessions in my office, many of my patients have done biofeedback training at home with occasional office visits or periodic phone or internet consultation.
- Benefits of biofeedback at home
1. Saves you time, since you don’t have to come to our office.
2. Saves you money. Not all insurance policies cover biofeedback or as many sessions as is sometimes necessary. In these instances, beginning biofeedback in my office and soon transferring training to home can be very cost-effective.
3. Very helpful and cost-effective for some conditions we treat that benefit from many sessions over
an extended period of time.
4. The equipment is very portable, allowing you to take it when traveling
or going on vacation.
- Biofeedback at Home Equipment
Not every patient's treatment allows for biofeedback at home, but for those for whom it is appropriate, the good news is that we have found a number of biofeedback instruments for use at home that are relatively inexpensive. There are also a number of software programs (some free) that are useful to use with the home biofeedback equipment and we will advise you on which ones are best for your circumstances.
- Other conditions treated with Biofeedback
We treat many other symptoms with biofeedback and you can read a complete listing of treatable conditions here.
- What to expect on your first visit
Your first meeting in our offices lasts one hour. We’ll thoroughly discuss your concerns and decide what the best methods are for treating them.
